Often my clients feel stuck in the way they've been doing things. They even say things like "it's just the way I am".
It's when I say: "No, it's the way you've learned to do things. If it were your character we wouldn't be able to do anything about it. I would be out of a job if that were true."
Each and every one of them had to admit that I was right.
Of course I'm not talking about real characteristics and predispositions that people have and that you should, in fact accept as your own. This is about making excuses for finding it hard to change your behavior and, basically, not knowing how.
As a holistic psychologist I facilitate change. I help you see the stress responses, the traumas, the influence your upbringing and childhood experiences had on you, how to breakthrough limiting beliefs and negative behavioral patterns, etc.
So LUCKILY it's not who you are, it's what you do. And you can choose to learn something new!
